The Enhance Hamilton County Foundation has issued a challenge to Hamilton County residents to raise money for local food pantries to help fill the shelves. The challenge will run from June 20 – July 20, 2014, and funds received will be matched dollar for dollar up to $2,000 by the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation. To participate in the food pantry challenge, send your check or drop off your cash contributions to: Sarah Miller, Enhance Hamilton County Foundation, 501 Bank Street Suite 1, Webster City, Iowa 50595. Checks should be made out to Enhance Hamilton County Foundation with the name of the food pantry to be supported listed in the memo line. If no food pantry is indicated, it will be assigned to one. Hamilton County has four food pantries: Upper Des Moines Opportunity (Webster City) serves Hamilton County, has income eligibility and is open from 9 am – noon, Monday – Thursday; Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry (Webster City) serves the county with no eligibility and is open 2 pm to 3 pm, Monday, Tuesday and Friday; The Lord’s Cupboard Bethesda Lutheran Church (Jewell) serves the South Hamilton Area, is open Monday at 5:30 pm and has no eligibility; and the Stratford Food Pantry is open once a month on Monday night with no eligibility criteria. All four-food pantries serve an estimated 160 families each month. One in six Americans struggled with hunger in 2012, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. All individuals and families should have adequate food for their needs. No one in Hamilton County should be allowed to sacrifice nutrition regardless of circumstances, especially children, and the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation wants to reach out to help those families that have fallen on hard times.
