The Entrepreneurial Academic: Reconfiguring Transferable Skills Acquired Through Design Research Study Date: July 8th - 12th 2013 We are pleased to announce applications are now being accepted for the SKIP Entrepreneurial Academic Workshop. Please find details on the workshop below: Co-ordinators: Professor Jane Harris, Reshni Soman, Sharon Spencer, Dr Monika Hestad, Jane Gibb Venues include: Royal College of Art / RCA Innovation; Central Saint Martins (CSM); Kingston University (KU). The starting point for this workshop will consider from a research perspective the term Entrepreneur, the broader meaning for which operates beyond the generally perceived bounds of business and commerce, incorporating invention, innovation, collaboration, and networking. From this premise how research study offers a particularly unique perspective upon which to develop novel career outcomes, post PhD will be explored. The workshop will help identify the transferable skills acquired during research study and understand the commercial aspects involved in becoming a provider of consultancy, creative services or products. Presentations from successful design graduates at various stages of innovation and development will provide an initial framework, helping to address the fundamentals of commercialization; individual and cross-disciplinary business models; locating and understanding the customer and assessing markets, in the broadest creative sense. The workshop will provide an understanding of Research Councils and funding opportunities available to the Post Doctoral Researcher and engage in the development of funding strategies and an awareness of related networks. Participants will also receive coaching on how to enhance their presentation and negotiating skills. The Workshop runs for 5 days and participants are expected to commit to attending for this period. In the application form, you are also required to submit a supporting statement which summarises your research interests and why the workshop would be of particular benefit to your research and support from your Supervisor. Participants will be allocated moderate travel and assistance support to enable them to contribute to a workshop.
