The FAIR IS COMING! 2014 Tanana Valley Fair ADA Awareness March 13, 2014 Meeting Minutes Attending: Christina D., Steve M., Bonnie L., Jaye Palmer., Mandy R., Art D. Teleconference: Rebecca T. 1) 2014 Timeline: Days: Wednesday, August 6- Alaska Heritage Day Thursday, August 7- Canned Food Day Times: 12:00pm to 7pm each day Agencies will be asked to staff their tables from 1pm-6pm each day, but may be at the event the entire time if they choose. 2) 2014 ADA events discussion Tentatively the events will be: Disability Obstacle Course Wheelchair Basketball Scavenger Hunt Deaf/hearing impaired/Low Vision Marshmallow Shoot Service Animals Still under discussion Recreational Adaptive Equipment display/information What to do with History Panels Interactive tactile activity (maybe in SH) Look into Fine Motor skills event Have disability equipment demo presented by Wounded Warriors Have a “Disability Experience” using taped or gloved hands to manipulate different things 3) Layout: · Steve is working on a way to display the layout and events on-screen. As a group we can look at the layout and make changes on the spot to see how the flow and activities would or would not work. · Move the NE border of the event to the NE corner of the Kiwanis building to display information on walls or use for more activities · Lions have again donate 5 tents for our use at the Fair. (J) · Brainstorm ways to compel fairgoers to flow through the event. 4) Donations/Support The donation request letter to Alaska Airlines to fund the purchase of 12 wheelchairs and a portable Disability Obstacle Course. Hopefully letter will go out 3/21. 5) Miscellaneous: · Christina has volunteered to coordinate and schedule information tables · Procure cheap ponchos with AA/WB logo to hand out in case of rain 6) Homework/Committees Art D: Connect with UAF Athletic Department for WCBB participation Connect Wounded Warrior for WCBB participation Contact Fair for explanation of Fair SH Next Meeting: Monday, March 31, 2014 at Access Alaska
