The FDNY lost a family member last night while fighting a high rise apartment fire. The Lt. became trapped in the fire while searching for anyone that may have been trapped inside. His fellow Brothers were able to find and rescue him, but the Lord above had already called him home. As I stand on the apparatus floor, looking at the BIG RED TRUCKS we ride, it becomes clear to me that no fire should be taken for granted. The RED DEVIL is lurking for its next victim w/o any sympathy or compation. To my fellow Brothers, as you head out the door on your next call, big or small, say a prayer and return safe to the firehouse, for you see, there is a loved one pinned to your locker or perhaps a picture of your family tucked neatly up inside your helmet...Waiting for you / us to return home, safe and sound. Prayers to the FDNY...
