The Fafa Album Review: The Stone Roses - s/t (1989) The Fafas favourite record. You like Oasis? You like Pulp? You like Primal Scream? You like Spiritualized? You like Blur? You like a shitton of other things? Well, you have to thank these guys and this album in particular. After being ostracized as nothing more than a shitty post punk band in the mid-80s, The Stone Roses rose to fame in 1987 with their single Sally Cinnamon. After changing producer after producer they finally found the right guy in John Leckie who managed to make a grossly inadequate singer like Ian Brown into a star of the highest order. But obviously he was just the figurehead of the band. In fact it is the work of the drummer Reni and the bassist Mani who actually made the difference as you can clearly hear from the awesome rhythm section of this LP. This is the foundation of the Madchester genre. It merged Beach Boys style psychedelic pop with New Wave,Post Punk and Manchesters own Acid House. The lyrics are also well thought and cohesive. The end result was a record that appealed to every possible musical crowd who knew something about this topic. They mightve been amateurs but the end result was just astounding. Final score: 9.5/10 Songs to have on your ipod: I wanna Be Adored,She Bangs the Drums,This is the One,I Am The Resurrection
