The Fafa COMPILATION review: New Order - Substance (1987) New - TopicsExpress

The Fafa COMPILATION review: New Order - Substance (1987) New Order is a group that arose from the ashes of legendary post-punk collective Joy Division. After the suicide of 23-year-old Ian Curtis in 1980, the three surviving members of Joy Division decided to carry on while changing the name. And what a career they had! While im not a huge fan of any of their albums except for Power Corruption and lies, its pretty much undeniable that their 5 album streak in the 1980s is nothing less than impressive. But what made new order so popular and influential are the strikingly good non album singles releases. And this compilation contains the very best that these guys ever produced. From 2 of the greatest post-punk/alt-rock songs of all time in Ceremony and Temptation, to the best-selling synth pop hit Blue Monday and to the hits influenced by Ibiza style alternative dance movement in the 80s like Shellshock or Bizarre love triangle, this compilation contains the heart and soul of what music sounded like in the 80s. Its a journey from the depressing post-punk movement of the late 70s to the beginning of the madchester era in the late 80s. This really shows what these guys were good at. And that is, adapting their style accordingly to the changing times. In conclusion, this is probably the greatest compilation of the 80s and a milestone in the history of pop and manchester music. This stuff is nothing less than essential. My final score: 10/10 Tracks to have on your Ipod: Ceremony, Temptation, Blue Monday, Bizarre Love Triangle
