The Fall season is on us ! Lament ! youtube/watch?v=BrqZMuTiqi4&sns=em Gerard Manley Hopkins is a British Jesuit poet. One of my favourite poets, not prolific. I like this poem, for its layers of meaning, imagery, symbolism, succinctness, & its subject. It is many things: literally, its central image is of the Fall season; birth (spring) & Fall (of man), and banishment from the Garden of Eden, as Christians understand it; loss of innocence; evil in the world, etc..
