The Festival of Lights - Diwali is sparkling again...but with a difference. The sound of crackers, the selling of Mithai and the buying of gifts has been low. The shops are all lit up and welcoming display has failed to attract buyers. Recently walking down the Lokhandwala market which is bright for the festive occasion saw few buyers with shopping bags in hand. They was a bigger crowd at the eateries than the shops. The bursting of fire crackers too has been negligible. There is definitely a priority shift this season. Many of my friends have decided to donate rather than splurge on themselves. Donating fruits, old clothes, buying for your maids children and bringing a cheer to an old grandparent is a wonderful way of spending your Diwali. We must look at a meaning ful way of spending this time so that our children learn the value of homecoming. My old Masi has had a fall and fractured her wrist. She will be operated on Diwali day. All our family is going to bring cheer to her in her hospital bed. The power of love and concern is so beautiful as it gives another a lease of life. What better way to celebrate the Festival of Lights than to bring a smile to someone who needs it the most. Today...think how would you like to spend time? By praying or by paying? By loving or by leaving? By getting or by giving? When I reflect back to all the Diwalis I have spent, I can recall the ones where I made rangolis with my daughter and helped my aunts decorate the home or my mother teaching me how to make sweets. The time when I personally made gifts for my friends or sat up the whole night making chocolates. These special moments are those which make Diwali special. Hope you will spend Diwali in the right spirit of love, lights and family bonding. Wishing you all a Happy Diwali.
