The Fields for the 2013 Breeders Cup by hsw (part one) Distaff Street Girl > the female side of her pedigree is outstanding- therefore her pedigree “issues” mainly concern her sire Street Hero- a winner of 1 race who broke down in the 2008 BC Juvenile- male line: Mr. Prospector >FF: 13-B (Union Rags etc)- Authenticity > stems from the useful family of Judy-Rae - has Lyphard & Quack in her pedigree- she should be thru after a mile or so- male line : Mr. Prospector FF: A4 ( Crème dela Crème etc.) Close Hatches > she also has a fine bottom and the pedigree issues revolve around her sire First Defense, primarily a handsome sprinter for Juddmonte Farms- male line: Mr. Prospector FF 8-F ( Blush With Pride etc.) Royal Delta > winner of the last 2 renewals of this event- her 3rd dam was iron-willed Proud Delta, a race mare built like Clint Courtney- her sire won the Belmont Stakes- Lyphard, sired her “granny”- male line: Mr. Prospector FF: 20-A (Sun Teddy etc.) Beholder > from a similar family tree as 2012 Kentucky Derby hero banished I’ll Have Another- which means Sea-Bird, the former horse of the world is in her 5th remove - It would seem doubtful her sire Henny Hughes, is capable of delivering the kind of quality needed to capture this event- >male line: Storm Cat FF 23-B (Affirmed etc.) PRINCESS OF SYLMAR > a 3yo who seems to be impervious to disappointing- a victory in this regatta would lift her to Rachel Alexandra status in my opine- her sire raced but twice- Majestic Warrior- the female side of the book also has some problems, after all Catienus, sired her dam Storm Dixie, who won 1 race from ten tries- which just goes to show that a good horse can arrive from anywhere- last time she left Royal Delta, gasping- and she may be made of even sterner stuff- if kept in training - (and she were mine) I would try her versus the best in Europe and the Orient perhaps a quintet- The “Arc” in France the best race for older horses in Germany- ditto in Japan and England and top it off with a run in the Melbourne Cup!!!!! She may be that kind of racehorse- we’ll see Friday- male line: A.P. Indy FF: 22-D ( Hansen etc.) Juvenile Turf Fillies Nesso > male line Mr. Prospector > FF: 8-K ( Sauge Pourpree etc.) she has Quack in her papers- her first 3 dams have zero wins between them but her 4th won the Penelope Stakes- her sire Roman Ruler, did sire a gelded Belmont Stakes winner- Al Thakhira > sire line: Mr. Prospector FF: 16 (Mashteen etc.) her grand pappy was one of the greats, and ill-fated, Dubai Millennium, a sort of modern day Domino, figure in so far as he sired but a few foals including Euro hot shot sire Dubawi- the female corps runs thru a family sponsored by Marshua, who used her swiftness to garner a CCA Oaks for the Gilroy family of Kentucky- Colonel Joan > male line: Man O War ff: 19-B > (Tempest Queen etc.) she may be a stakes placed maiden- a strange place to attempt to break your maiden is the Breeders Cup! Kitten Kaboodle > male line > Sadler’s Wells ff: 4-P (Morgaise etc.) - her sire is currently the hottest stud in the US if not the world - Kitten‘s Joy - the Ramsey’s of Kentucky own this living ATM machine -so no matter what, this entrant needs to be fully checked out before drawing a line through her name in the “form” -she has fabulous Gone West in her papers- Granny MC’s Kitten > another Ramsey’s of Kentucky gamma ray, bred in the same manner as the aforementioned “Kaboodle” Kitten’s Joy out of a Grand Slam mare- the latter is a son of mega-stallion Gone West- who is gaining in presence within quality pedigrees the world over with astonishing rapidity- male line: Sadler’s Wells ff: 14-C (Pretty Polly etc.) Vorda > is a French bred filly stemming from the male line of Danzig, her female family (ff) are also Pretty Polly’s 14-C - her great grandmother was a champion in Italy, winning a number of 3yo classics in that land of great food, beautiful women & Fellini- Street Sailing > male line: Mr. Prospector ff: 22-B (Evening Out etc.) another lass sired by questionable Street Boss, who broke down early in his career- she is interestingly inbred to Grand Splendor 5x5 via her daughters Gonfalon and Killaloe- Chriselliam > stems from the Gone West division of the Mr. Prospector stallion line- and her female family are the “straight” 10 crew- the family traces back in time to Celestial Way, a excellent juvenile if I read my tea leaves correctly- the race is on the grass so she seems to fit in with these and her pedigree is “strange” enough to qualify her as a sooner or lighter turf starlet- and there are many crosses to Northern Dancer’s dam Natalma, tossed into a starry array of Euro types- the outstanding Richard Hughes is her “boy” -wasn’t he Frankel’s rider? Dancing House > her male line: AP Indy and the ff are 14-A (Polynesian etc.) her sire is popular Tapit, who has made a habit of sending out Breeders Cup capable progeny over the last couple of seasons- the female family strikes me as not to the level needed to haul away the loot in this very tough race- conversely her dam is Tout Charmant, a heavy hitter and winner of nearly 1.8 millions- Clenor > is an Irish bred lassie, her male line, Danzig’s branch of the Northern Dancer line- and the ff: 1-H -her female line looks “weak” to me- but she is a Euro type and they are a grass loving populace- the female line extends back to Sunshine (1867)- Ready To Act > her male line is Hail To Reason, the 1st one of those seen thus far and the ff are 2-E (Kenbu etc.) types- the sire More Than Ready, has already demonstrated the ability to get a precocious Breeders Cup grass winner in Team Valor Int. -Pluck, not too long ago- so a bird in hand may be worthy of two in the brush- trainer Chad Brown is supposed to be a top man with fillies and the rider is Rosario J. once the hottest jockey in the new world- Bobby Frankel might have owned the granny here and she was a good producer- Testa Rossi > is another Hail To Reason line filly, this time thru Euro ace Dr. Fong- her ff group are 16-g mares - (Miswaki etc.) - her dam won 1 race from 14 starts - so that might preclude supporting her in this endeavor- Trainer Chad Brown is the man pulling the strings for this filly as well- Sky Painter- must overcome an outside post I suppose she is a member of the Mr. Prospector male line and her good looking ff are 2-D (Northern Dancer etc.) her 3rd dam won or placed in stakes ages 2-5yo - her sire Street Cry, has been excellent and it would surprise no one if he gets another BC day winner- jockey Saez gets a good opportunity here to build his resume- MY CONQUESTADORY - I was surprised to see she will tackle the turf hopefuls- she struck a chord from the get go besting males in the stakes in which she disposed of her maiden! Such deeds are seldom encountered -it is quite rare in a G2 event- she followed that with a G1 victory and the guys at TVG were carrying on about her as if she were “pocket” Dahlia or some such- the sire line are the Sadler’s Wells corps via El Prado- the female group is somewhat “shabbier” 4-N (Generous etc.) if I may, but at least they were all out there winning races and I speak of Golden Artemis & Native Trinket & Miss Gem & Marianne Theresa & Chalk Lullah - the latter a daughter of Peace Corps -but the family recedes back to a full sister of Gallant Fox, if I have my “specs” on correctly- the trainer is capable Casse from the northern latitudes and jockey Da Silva makes a rare west coast appearance- Hs Watnik @2013
