The Fijian Teachers Association is urging teachers to start preparing for the new school term. Association General Secretary Maika Nadamu says, teachers particularly those transferred to other schools should soon start making arrangements. With the first school term beginning on the 19th of this month, the Fijian Teachers Association says, there’s no room for complacency by teachers or leave their preparation to the last minute. “Transfers has already been initiated by the Ministry of Education and teachers have been issued with transfer letters towards the end of last term. They were given opportunities to go back to the ministry to tell them whether they can go or not for obvious reasons,” said Namudu. Namudu is of the view, this year will be quite a challenging one for teachers and they should be well aware of certain changes brought about by the Ministry. ” Especially now this year we are introducing external examinations. SO that will be some big changes again in the operation of school. So these are the things teachers have to really have the mind-set right” Namudu however says, teachers are ready for another school year. “Its Ministry’s core functions to see that whenever there is a change, they have to make sure that the teachers are prepared, also to be given opportunities to attend workshops, informed of new reforms and the new changes whether curriculum or whatever to be taught” The Fijian Teachers Association has close to 4 thousand members.
