The Fijian delegation participating in the Melanesia Festival of Arts lost one of their members Sunday night in Port Moresby. PNG Loop understands the delegate, a traditional mat weaver passed away suddenly. The Fiji High Commission in Port Moresby is in the process of informing family members of the deceased and details will not be released until that is done. Arrangements are being made for the repatriation of the body back home. Meanwhile, PNG Minister for Arts and Culture Boka Kondra in a statement expressed his condolences over the two deaths experienced at the weekend by the Solomon Islands and Fijian contingents at the 5th Melanesian Arts and Culture Festival. The Minister expressed sorrow over the deaths of John Tahinao, Director, Solomon Islands Cultural Commission, and head of the Solomon Islands delegation as well as the loss of the Fijian delegate.
