The First lady of Azerbaijan inspects construction progress at Baku National Stadium Azerbaijan’s First Lady and Chair of the Baku 2015 European Games Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva has inspected the construction progress at the Baku National Stadium. The First Lady was told that a large part of the construction, which started in June 2011, had already been completed. She was also updated on what had been in the interior of the stadium. The National Stadium which has a capacity of 69,000 seats will take pride of place among the capital’s sports facilities. Multipurpose stands, a running track and other facilities will be included. The construction will be in accordance with the International Building Code, as well as those of UEFA and FIFA. The stadium, which will be the largest in the Caucasus, will stretch across 50 hectares, and it will stand approximately 62 metres high. The facility will consist of two stadiums, the main stadium as detailed above and an auxiliary stadium which will act as the warm up track during the European Games. It will also boost an auxiliary building, as well as sections for VIP, CIP, media and disabled spectators. The field will have four entrance gates, while the stands will have 26 gates. A 3,103-capacity car park will be built on the territory. A 82,000 square meter green area will be laid out around the stadium. Notably Baku National Stadium will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies for the European Games as well as the Athletics competition. Photos courtesy of: azertag
