The First time I went to Africa back in 1978, with Típica Ideal subsituting for Vicente Consuegra Darío ( Yes, People, in my younger singing days I was utilized as the Understudy to Great singers) one of the first Transit stops was the country of Cameroon where I was presented at the airport with two customary gifts. First? by surprise? I was given a Lion cub as a gift!!! I did not see from which direction they plopped him into my arms and hands!!!! I started, to laugh so hard?? as everyone joined in? because everyone around saw my facial expression of an ecstatic surprise? along with the colors of my face changing it was so funny. Then I got serious because they gave me an Honorable Compliment and Salutation. it was : Welcome home to Africa your Majesty ,sir , here you are an African King and it is a custom for us to give gifts to our Kings as tradition when they come back from traveling. As I was getting separation anxiety because the Lion cub and I were begining to bond? I quickly said I cannot harbor such a Majestic Animal in New York!! he is the kind of Animal that needs to roam free, and I dont have the means to financially support him as I would be paying much and more as he grows. I sadly handed him back and his reaction was just like a baby when separated from his mother ir father he started that yell cry babies do. Then I got the...Oh but your Majesty!!! a man of Color stepping off a plane comming from the United States it is our Custom to give our King gifts!!! I was unaware for the double whammy and started to think (aahhh ok! this is the Diaspora and Slave thing!). With that? the double whammy thing was that they then broughf and handed to me a baby Bonomo Chimpanzee!!!!!! at that point? I was about tempted to say Ok take me to my Throne!!! ,but you know me not being greedy etc. Throughout everyones laughter? I just humbly told them listen the same rule that happened with my almost Large Cat to be? the same with this fellow because in the United States? they would to take him from me? poke and prod or Dissect him? or send him off to be the first Monkey on the Moon? as we already did that wed just be repeating the process??!!! and Id seriously probably would be si attached to him as you saw almost happened with the cub? and would probably go Rambo/ Schwarzenegger on those that took him away from me!!!! So to end the annecdote? I gave him back was relieved of him from my arms and Típica Ideal and I just kept truckin Through to rest up a bit for about an hour before getting back on the plane to fly to Nigería.
