The Flat Earth by Thomas Dolby is one of my all-time favorite albums, which was released 30 years ago. I just loved that record. last night I found a remastered cd version and have been listening to it REAL LOUD in the truck, it is so amazing. I met Thomas a few years ago when he was playing in Hollywood, and he told me the song Hyperactive was not supposed to be on the album, but the label wanted an uptempo hit (which it was). I said, I always thought that song didnt go with the album, which is, except for that track, more ambient and mellow (but gorgeous, like you might expect from Peter Gabriel). In the liner notes of the cd he writes that his first album had been released and done nothing, so he was quietly working in the studio, when suddenly MTV started playing She Blinded Me With Science and he had to stop working and go to America to become a star. so, in a sense, the album isnt finished (and is short at only 7 tracks, one of which doesnt actually belong!).
