The Flower by Stephen Pennino I remember the flower that bloomed so long ago. Her petals so soft, her fragrance so rare. In the sunshine her colors were bright and sharp. Like the edge of a razor. Her double edged sword could cut like a laser. Cool pastels all around her as a frame on a portrait. her beauty enhanced and made clear and so pleasing. In the darkness she glowed like a flame in the night, her embers inviting as a moth to the light. The flower is a rose, her essence enticing. Dare to partake and youd find a thorn in hiding. Piercing deep to the center, The blood flowing warm and freely, the pain oh so searing. Did it matter? Oh no, because her beauty numbed the sore. Resistance is futile must go back for more. Be careful the next time. take ease with the fingers, beware of the danger. The pain will not stop you and the tears will not hinder. Never will you learn in your quest to be near her. The eyes do the thinking but the heart will decide. Good sense is lacking in these matters heart. As in a Venus fly trap, the bugs not so smart. Her scent draws you in with the promise of rapture. When you think youve arrived and feel secure in your feasting, the door slams shut and ensnarls you completely. Beautiful danger is near and so Wiley. Lilies are pleasing but do tread wisely. Lilies of the Valley Invite you to pleasure. It will cause you much grief and regret without measure. The sweet smell of Daphne is pleasing to the senses but one taste of her and your life force surrenders. Angel Trumpet sounds safe but do beware. Dont be fooled by its name, its demons ensnare. The tempting young flower grew up and grew strong. The danger she garnered didnt last long. The caution she gave you subsided with age. But an endless obsession still persists to this day. Shes Daffodils, and Violets, Carnations, and Orchids. Something so different has emerged and came forward. With time the caution she gave you has ceased to give warning. The wildflower has mellowed and peace she enjoys. Shes safe and adorable and loving and coy. In her is no harm and no deceit will you find. Its later in life and shes much better and kind. Still a tempting flower but safe and much Refined. She still blooms with the morning and warmth from the sun. The names of the flower grows longer with age. The Amorphophallus Titan is hard to say, but its Miracle enchants you as she basks in the suns rays. For forty years she lies dormant not daring to unfold. She blooms once in in those years and for awhile life shows. The grace of the young flower that bloomed so long ago, her lusciousness never left her and her attraction still holds. The memories are vivid and renewed everyday. Her enhanced vegetation still there on display. Her colors persists and her glow never faded. The flower never wilted, her life never jaded.
