The Forgery: This camera supports the look and feel of a light - TopicsExpress

The Forgery: This camera supports the look and feel of a light weight 35mm SLR but it is little more than a point and shoot on steroids, not very good steroids at that. It boasts four aperture settings (6.3, 8, 11, 16) on a 50mm lens, Auto wind, an auto timer estimated somewhere around 10 sec, Waist level viewfinder as well as traditional (point and shoot) eye level viewfinder, an awful red light that shows up in every shot with any semblance of a reflective surface and a removable grip style flash. The Camera body is constructed entirely out of plastic, The lens is a fixed focus lens and is fixed to the body. It can not be removed and is also composed out of plastic. The flash requires a fistful of double A batteries but is a surprisingly capable flash, It can be adjusted into a couple bounce positions and direct along with some control over width of the flash. How ever this camera is very poor in low light conditions even with the support of the flash. I did however find acceptable results from the flash mounted on my Chinon CS for some time. This camera suffers from parallax error you would expect out of early point and shoots. Light seals are poor and film kept in this camera for prolonged time will take on light leak unless stored in dark place, however short term film shooting light leak was not noticeable during my testing. As well as general piss poor low light performance. DONT BE FOOLED, Over all, Its a toy camera. If you are going to buy one of these cameras, buy it for what it is. Toy cameras such as this one have earned reverence in their own for their artistic merit potential and would serve as a fine variant in the Holga/Holgaesk scene. This particular camera also has merit as a training camera for young children who want to go shooting with Mommy/Daddy but are not yet old enough to handle the real SLR. It has the look of mommy/daddies camera and It will produce results that they can see for them selves. The light weight plastic construction is easy to carry and durable enough to handle some drops from a child. It can be acquired at a cost that is not only replaceable but neglectable. Should the child not wish to keep going in photography it can be tossed in a closet and forgotten. The camera I tested served this task very well when my six or seven year old nephew just had to go shooting with my wife and I. This camera came into my possession through my brother in law, He had acquired it new ten or fifteen years ago give or take while browsing receiver rejects back when he drove truck for a living. It is fake, Over recent years I have seen these pop up under several brand names including but not limited to Canon and Nikon.
