The Foundation of a Good Diet The importance of a well-balanced diet for training and healthy living is common knowledge to most of us. However, a lack of knowledge regarding the types of food that should be eaten is often the first obstacle that causes difficulties for people to adopt a healthier lifestyle. It is not at all unfamiliar to hear of fad healthy eating trends and tips such as cut down on fat and no carbs. A true understanding of nutrition and food types will show you just how inaccurate these statements can be. So what foods should form the foundation of your diet. Take a look at the following to get an idea of what could make up the bulk of your meal plan: CARBS (preferably wholemeal, complex carbohydrates) Oats Rice Sweet potato (occasionally white) Rice cakes Wholemeal pasta/noodles And some fruit mainly around training times Veg (emphasis on green veg) PROTEIN (lean cut meats) Chicken Turkey Cod Salmon Steak Egg whites Whey protein Some beans FATS (healthy fats should not be neglected!!) Avocado Variety of nuts Eggs Flaxseed Olive oil (uncooked) Peanut butter A good balance of each of these foods is sure to set you on the right track and will very quickly have you feeling more energised and healthier. Slowly adapting your diet to include such foods will ensure sustainability and success. Try to learn to enjoy eating healthy and not view it as a chore.
