The Founding Fathers made the assumption that congress would - TopicsExpress

The Founding Fathers made the assumption that congress would always choose, despite politics, to act in the best interest of the American People. That is, rather than cow-tie to the Tea Party, congress would regard the well-being of the American society and its people as being more important and compelling for decision-making than the partisan interests of lobbyists and specific interest groups. They were wrong. Congress is broken, money rules all and the interests of the American people as a whole are not as important as the specific interests of those who pay the piper. By the middle of October the US Government may not be able to honour its debts. This is unlikely – some kind of short term compromise will occur and some kind of bridge will be built between the immediate crisis and the next one. The Republicans and Democrats will blame each other and the American people will know once again that no one has their best interests at heart. The real issues will not be debated and the actual problem – why the debt ceiling is going up annually in significant ways – will not be addressed.
