The Fourth World is the absolute best presentation I have seen on - TopicsExpress

The Fourth World is the absolute best presentation I have seen on the 1/6 of the worlds population who live in slums (1 billion people and supposedly tripling in the next few decades). I have been to the Mathare Valley slum in Nairobi, Kenya twice and this documentary gave me some of the background knowledge that I have heard about, but hadnt fully seen. The video highlights three such slums: Mathare Valley (where we go in Kenya), Guatemala where my sister is going along with my niece for the second time this summer, and Manila, Philippines. The stories in one slum are sadly so similar to the stories in other slums. I encourage you to turn off the fake reality TV and learn the reality for so many people on our planet. It is quite eye-opening and tragic, although the video does highlight the hard work and talents that are found within these people (something that I have definitely seen). The last five minutes of the documentary tells you why addressing this issue is so vitally important as well as showing how important education is in these communities. You can view it for free on HULU or Tubitv or you can purchase or rent it on iTunes, GooglePlay, and even Youtube The links are all on this page. fourthworldfilm/buy-the-film.html It is well worth your time. My Kenya teammates will really appreciate this and should definitely watch it. As one fifth grade girl blurted out a little while ago when I was presenting my trip to Mathare last summer and briefly describing the slum conditions, Why doesnt anyone do something about this? I believe the first step is simply getting people educated about what life is like outside our neatly ordered and protected worlds. This video will do the trick! If you watch it, let me know what you think, but I cant recommend it enough.
