The French lyric tenor, Lucien Muratore (1876 ~ 1954) sings Paolo - TopicsExpress

The French lyric tenor, Lucien Muratore (1876 ~ 1954) sings Paolo Tostis short, but charming song, Il Pescatori Canta! (The Fishermen Sings!). Recorded in New York, for American branch of Pathe, around 1916-1917. For his long career, he had recorded for various companies, but most of his artistry was preserved for posterity by Pathe. This is a American Pathe (paper label, edge start) pressing from late 1910s. Played with a special ball-shaped stylus designed for Pathe, and played at around 83rpm. (another guesswork by my ear). Although the record is largely free of skating, the overall sound is very dim and there was a constant rumble throughout the entire recording, which is typical for Pathe vertical recordings of the period. I tried to reduce the rumble by appling de-rumbling filter, as well as applying certain amount of equalizing to reduce bass and slightly accent the treble. Below are two photos ; one is Muratores portrait from mid 1910s, and the other is a publiticy photo of him from 1916 in front of the Pathe recording machine, with his then-wife, Lina Cavalieri. It is interesting to see the mechanisms and the large master cylinder recording apparatus. Once again, courtesy of Jim Shulman. Please enjoy! https://app.box/s/yarkpfacxm6824i8dbab
