The Funeral rites.....antyestic sanskar Dear Friends/Devotees we meet once again this lovely Sunday Morning bringing you excerpts from the most powerful beautiful meaningful Program SHANTI VANDANA by none other than our very own Pt KRISHEN RAMDEEN. This mornings topic is in continuation of what Pundit Ji shared with us yesterday....Concept and Understanding death today Pt Ji spoke on what happens to the body soon after death. Again this message is a bit long but it is worth your time....These topics many dont want to talk about until its almost too late because we feel depressed, it probably reminds us of death of a loved one....the way Pt Krishen Ji described this morning about the funeral rites, there is nothing to be afraid of or feel sad as you learn more and more the deeper aspects of death and thereafter... During this period of Pitri Paksh we offer respect to our ancestors by offering Thilanjali (black thill) on the odd days (3, 5, 9...) facing the Southern side.....so many of us go to funerals but not many understand it.....death is a beautiful experience when we understand it....... How many of us get the opportunity to make preparations for our death? its called the pre-death preparations.....in Tulsidass Ramcharitra Manas, Sravanakumar who got shot by accident by King Dasharath, He said in his final moments to the King....I forgive you for it was an accident, but please go and take care of my parents. Take this water to my blind parents and after they drink the water tell them what happened.....the final words that came from the lips of Sravanakumar was OM...... There are 8 gifts that is prescribed at this period of time....sesame seed, cloth, gold etc etc.... whats important is give what you can.....anyone of the children, relative or a complete stranger is entitled to perform rites for the dead or dying.....this is removing sins from this world....there is no confession its supplicating to God....saying I have made mistakes......when you say your prayer at night to God..say THANK YOU GOD.....every single day is a day to ask for forgiveness..... Pt Krishen Ji described further beautifully I am not a saint nor am I a wicked person, irrespective of what the world may think I am only human....God will be favourable towards me.....when death is imminent, if the circumstances permit, before death a convenient place in the home should be cleansed with Gober (cow dung) black thill should be sprinkled and the person should be placed facing north and mantras should be chanted.....take tulsi water and offer into the mouth of the person.....these are pre death ceremonies.... After death.....a deya should be lit and the kalsa should have water and coin in it and placed on the little saucer with the five mango leaves.....the deya should be kept lighting even when the body leaves the home....its important to consult your Pundti Ji when there is death in the family.....he will tell you the time of death and some of the special ceremonies to be performed... The eldest son normally does the rites..the shaving of the head is done on the 10th day...the morning of the funeral, the person performing the rites takes his bath, outside the home applies gober, sprinkles black thill and the body is placed there.....take down the sindhoor for married women..... please note..... we should never be judgemental about a relationship..when that death ceremony is performed, if the wife is living with her husband, the conversation they have, others have no right in this....... The body should be placed head facing north and the lit deya on the head side before the body leaves the home.....five pindas have to be offered at different locations...1st at the body, 2nd at the gateway, 3rd at the 4 road intersection or at the cremation site, 4th at the cremation site and 5th at the pyre..... there are 5 stops made...called the 5 manzils when the body leaves the home..... .....earth goes back to earth, water goes back to water, air goes back to air, fire goes back to fire and akash or space will remain.....when the final rites are performed on the body, the soul is never born and never dies.....before the final burning the five stops is saying thank you to the environment...the matter being space, water, fire, air and earth...... Death defines life.......next weekend Pundit Ji will share with us what happens to the soul after death.......is there reincarnation or not? What a beautiful topic Pt Krishen Ji shared with us this morning on SHANTI VANDANA..... it puts a lot of things into perspective. There is so much we can learn each day as our rituals, rites, ceremonies have so much depth so much meaning......its simply beautiful. Pundit Ji explained it in such simple terms it allows us to process better Do have a blessed beautiful Sunday and the rest of the week...until next weekend..do be safe. SITA RAM!!!
