The Future of Golf is Bright! Can you imagine every child in your community being introduced to golf in school? IT’S HAPPENING! Over the past two years “Starting New at Golf” or SNAG, has spread like wildfire throughout Kansas and most of the Midwest. The rapid growth is due solely to the work of Kansas Golf Foundation Trustees, Jeff Burey, Overland Park, and Tony Gogel of Leawood. As a 501(c)(3) organization, the Kansas Golf Foundation has a mission to “Promote the Future and Preserve the History of Golf in Kansas ”. To accomplish a piece of this Mission, the Foundation has partnered with the “Golf in Schools” program to raise awareness of golf in local communities. First developed by former PGA Tour professionals Terry Anton and Wally Armstrong, SNAGSNAG is a fun and easy way to introduce golf to people of all ages. It has become the best first touch program to effectively teach the game of golf and offers versatility to play in almost any environment, like a school gymnasium. With support of the Kansas Golf Foundation and the Midwest Section PGA, we currently have over 100,000 students throughout our state that are learning golf as part of their regular physical education curriculum. Our ultimate goal is to introduce the game of golf to every child in the state of Kansas. While Jeff and Tony take on this monumental task, we feel the best way to communicate the details of the program is to conduct a series of regional meetings throughout Kansas. These meetings will be very informative, and hopefully, encourage you to support the “Golf in Schools” initiative in your local and neighboring communities. 2015 SNAG Regional Meeting Schedule: Sunday, March 15 – Wichita Area 3:00 pm Sunday, March 22 – Lawrence Area 3:00 pm Sunday, March 29 – Salina Area 3:00 pm Note: Final meeting locations will be finalized and sent out in our corresponding announcements. Who’s invited? We encourage anyone with a passion for golf, or someone who purely has an interest in helping the local community. With so many schools adopting the “Golf in Schools” program, we are in need of volunteers to serve as SNAG Community Directors. As a SNAG Community Director, you would be tasked with follow-up duties within your area. Usually, this will result in a simple phone call or email to a certified SNAG instructor to encourage the continued use of the curriculum and to offer assistance in the classroom or teaching environment. Here is a short video that will introduce you to SNAG golf! If you are interested in getting involved, please RSVP by sending an email to Tyler Cummins, [email protected], or by calling the KGA office directly, (785)482-4833. We hope that you are able to attend and urge you to bring a spouse, friend or any other individuals who might like to learn about the “Golf in Schools” program. Your attendance will not require that you become a SNAG Community Director, but it will at least inform you of the many great things happening across our state! Sincerely, Tony Gogel, KGF Trustee Jeff Burey, Midwest PGA, KGF Trustee & Director of “Golf in School” programming Tyler Cummins, KGA Director of Member Services & Junior Golf
