The Future of Prsenentation. Many of the posts in this group deal with theatres that are now projecting in digital but not all. Many of these theatres will NOT be able to show some of the product below especially if the release is only on a film print. Now it it Apparent that film is dead. Not Quite Currently this is known about CURRENT film projects. Kodak has agreed to continue making 35mm prints: Tarantino and Nolan share a Kodak moment as studios fund film processing theguardian/film/2014/jul/31/quentin-tarantino-christopher-nolan-kodak-film I teched a 35mm dailies trailer for a 4 picture deal between Paramount, Warner, and Imax to be SHOT in IMAX FILM 70MM FILM & 35MM full frame to be released in 35mm scope. (Paramount supposedly having sworn that they were through) The First of these is Interstellar Staring Matthew McConaghy and directed by Christopher Nolan Panavision, who had supposedly quit making film camera lenses several years ago just made two (2) 70mm lenses for DISNEY to shoot the latest incarnation of STAR WARS films. You all know DISNEY was the FIRST to declare war on film. JJ Abrams is shooting Star Wars in 70mm Quentin Tarantino is shooting Hateful Eight in 65mm: technologytell/entertainment/50639/tarantinos-hateful-eight-getting-wide-distribution-70mm/ He also kicked out Michael Torgan from the New Beverly the instant he found out that MIchael had purchased a 4k digital projector. Michael was forced to put in a digital projector to stay in business. Quentin basically had purchased the place and Michael had it rent free but Michael was running a business and a business has to operate at a profit and many titles people wanted to see were only available to him on server based systems. Quentin claims to have a huge library and if he can afford to operate at a loss then more power to him. contactmusic/story/quentin-tarantino-takes-over-management-duties-at-los-angeles-cinema_4361333 Paul Thomas Anderson Shot The Master in 70mm last year and will probably do more. Note the day In stalled this I also a block down installed a 16mm film looper. Film - both 16 and 35mm have a place in the Art world and will continue to do so. Currently there is no stable medium to store archival digital prints except film. Film will probably be around for many years in one form or another if in no other way than special presentation and of course archival showings. Is film King? Nope. Is film gone? Nope -- Laurence Hammett [email protected] 323-377-0882 Cell
