The G.G. is appointed by The Prime Minister, but is the role of the G.G. not suppose to be non-partisan - and to ultimately be a check against an overbearing Prime Minister and Government - as too are the RCMP and the Federal Civil Service? Perhaps that is the real problem - having the G.G. , The Senate ,The Privy Council Office etcetera all being appointed by The Prime Minister. In Canadas Constitutional Monarchy the RCMP arnt suppose to be under his command or control when it comes to internal wrong doing that might be connected to the Government. They are suppose to be independent and non-partisan. The RCMP should be hauling Stephen Harpers ass onto the carpet about now really – in my opinion. Yet he has, as far as I can tell, tried to hinder their investigation in the Senate scandal as it relates to the PMO and possibly to himself. It seems to me Stephen Harper wants to usurp The Crown (Say, ain’t that called “TREASON”). I note that he even had The Governor General of Canada David Johnston promoting the Conservatives agenda by speaking on their behalf on a trade mission to China recently. So, it begs the question are/is/have the RCMP Brass been or are they still in bed with Stephen Harper or do they simply not understand their own duties and obligations. Maybe even David Johnston - supposably one of Canadas Constitutional experts - doesnt see - the obvious to some of us anyway - conflict of interest. Makes ya wonder. - See my letter to Rex Murphy sent registered mail yesterday (Thursday Nov. 7, 2013) asking him to address this issue. Wednesday, November 6, 2013. Mr. Rex Murphy C/O “The National”, Canadian Broadcasting Corporations, P.O. Box 500, Toronto, Ontario, M5W 1E6 Story idea and question for REX MURPHY at “The National”, CBC: In the wake of the Senate scandal. Dear Sir: It has always been my understanding that in Canada’s Constitutional Monarchy it is a professional Federal Civil Service (including the RCMP) that is suppose to be a check against a meddling, interfering (with the civil service, Privy Council Office, etcetera) Prime Minister and Prime Minister’s Office and that is suppose to let Parliamentarians and Senators know when they have overstepped their roles, have abused their office or have otherwise put themselves in a position of conflict of interest. This was first drawn to my attention by a British Constitutional expert/lawyer (name?) speaking of Canada I heard in an interview years ago on CBC Radio. Following that interview one of the first - to me very obvious - violations or confusion/reversal of roles, duties and obligations occurring that I noticed was the appointment of Liberal Paul Hellyer to The Privy Council Office - a supposably “non partisan” body - I believe by Pierre E. Trudeau - decades ago! This has always astounded and baffled me. Since then I, like may other Canadians, have noticed a great many such violations and questionable activities occurring with both present and past, both Conservaive and Liberal Governments. Futhermore, why is the current Governor General David Johnston acting as a spokesperson on a trade mission promoting a Conservative Government’s objectives as he has done recently in China? Is this not the G.G. overstepping his role - acting in a partisan manner? Doesn’t that compromise and undermine the office of The Governor General of Canada? If I am correct, then why has The Federal Civil Service become so meek and why has this apparently never been an issue seriously persued by CBC, other media or by academics? Thank you. John P.B.
