The Gabz FM 2014 candidates debates took off yesterday in - TopicsExpress

The Gabz FM 2014 candidates debates took off yesterday in Kgalagadi South. I think that the initiative is a noble and value adding one for our democracy. It is important to inculcate a culture of issue based political discourse. Gone are the days when we should be voting on the basis of historical affiliation based on the choices that our forefathers made. It is unfortunate that the BDP has decided to stay away from the debates. One of the reasons for their boycott could be that they are unsure of their story line as well as the capacity of their candidates to defend their track record and their pledges for the electorate. Those who are sympathetic to the BDP and are planning to vote for it should reflect further. Surely the BDP should respect their supporters right to receive information from their leaders. That they will be participating in the RB1 debates is not an excuse to stay away from the Gabz FM debates. The radio stations serve different sectors of our society and political parties must reach out to all the voters through the different radio stations. Some BCP supporters have expressed the view that we should consider boycotting the RB1 debates. Two wrongs do not make a right. We have an obligation to explain our manifesto to all Batswana. We will definitely be participating in the RB1 debates and I am told that our candidate for Kgalagadi South (Richard White) did extremely well in explaining the party plan for the constituency. Best of luck to all the BCP candidates. Let the voters judge us on the basis of our ideas and our candidates capability to articulate our vision for a better Botswana
