• The Gadhimai Bloodbath • Do you know that 500,000 animals will be slaughtered this 28th and 29th November in the name of God? Gadhimai Festival that is celebrated every 5 years in Nepal will have people even from India participating in animal sacrifice. 🐐🐎🐃🐀🐇🐓🐕🐖🐁🐂 🐊🐫🐪🐆🐈🐂🐡🐩🐏🐄 The festival celebrating Goddess Gadhimai in Nepal this November is a horror where thousands of animals will be butchered. The Gadhimai Festival in Nepal scheduled for November 28th and 29th in which close to 500,000 animals are slaughtered in the name of Goddess Gadhimai. This temple is located 50 kms from the Indian border, in Bariyapur District, south of Kathmandu. The shocking truth is that 80% of animals and worshippers are from India (Bihar, UP, W Bengal and Uttarakhand) crossing the porus borders into Nepal. The animals are transported in contravention of all Indian laws – the Export-Import policies under the Foreign Trade Act and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. Rukmini Sekhars article talks about this ritual where the blood thirsty Goddess Gadhimai presides over the largest ritual animal sacrifice of the world. Rukmini in her article quotes an eye witness account , “The animals were not given any water and food in the days before the sacrifice. Many young animals had, in fact, already died from stress, exhaustion and dehydration. Anyone could kill anything, with whatever — knife or sword. Many animals died an unbearably slow and violent death because the butcher was inexperienced and the knives were not sharpened properly. Who is Gadhimai? Worshiped as the Hindu Goddess of power, the festival in her name celebrated every 5 years. Last one was in 2009. Anil Bhanot of the UK Hindu Council writes, Bhagwan Chaudhary, the feudal landlord was imprisoned in Makwanpur fort prison about 260 years ago. He dreamed that all his problems would be solved if he made a blood sacrifice to Gadhimai. Immediately upon his release from prison he took counsel from the local village healer who started the sacrificed with drops of his own blood from five parts of his body. Apparently then a light appeared in an earthenware jar, and the gory sacrifice began. Gadhimai festival is celebrated every 5 years, the last one in 2009 was also documented by many to spread awareness about the barbaric ritual. It is time that such practices were stopped. 22 countries globally came together on October 11, 2014 to protest against this bizarre and gruesome festival, including the USA, UK, France, Australia, Japan. Protests happened in India too, outside the Nepalese Embassy In the meanwhile, a writ petition submitted by Humane Society International to the Supreme Court has yielded in an order that curbs the illegal transport of animals from India to Nepal. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent out written orders, dated 25th September to the four states of Bihar, UP, West Bengal and Uttarakhand to not allow the illegal transport of animals into Nepal. But as Nepal prepares for another festival this year, on the 28 and 29th November, social media is abuzz with people appalled by this regressive and barbaric practice.
