The Game warden behaved correctly, standing still, having something between him and bear, facing bear without direct eye contact, staying siient while bear reviewed the situation. Not showing panic, or yelling when bear approached. Speaking softly an AA when it took each direct look at him pausing when it looked away. And Knowing that the Bear was seeking food (FISH) during the run, was most likely not agressivly hungry. The bear on approach, Did Not give direct eye contact, but yawned and drulled showing its stress. The trail he is on is a bears trail used to evaluate its chances at fishing, keeping its attention off range while keeping notice of ranger. Allowing it time to evaluate him as not a threat. Im certin that the ranger had his firearm readied while this was happening, just in case. His knowledge of the bears, area , the fish run, and staying calm kept it from excalating to something else, not good for him or the bear. Amasing how a 1000lb grizzly can be so silent and get that close before he knew it. He should have been more aware, and less distracted by his work, also there are two chairs there as you dont go alone one should always be keeping watch, and that bear then may not have gotten that close with a timely deterrent. It resolved quickly, but it should have not have even happened. Ranger made mistakes, but handled it well. in the pinch. Just my opinion. :-)
