The Gardere Lanes Pedestrian Improvements project is currently an authorized project in the East Baton Rouge City-Parish Sidewalk and Beautification Program. The project proposes to install sidewalks on the east side of Gardere Lane from Nicholson Drive to Burbank Drive and a 10’ Multi-Use Path on the west side of Gardere Lane from Nicholson to BREC’s Hartley Vey Park. The scope and related cost of the proposed project is larger than the standard project within the program and for this reason additional funding is actively being sought. A phased approach has been scheduled, as detailed below, to allow construction funding to be spread over the three year period from 2015 to 2017 in order to reduce the financial impact to participating programs. The Transportation Alternatives Program is a federal program administered by LA DOTD. The application will be submitted for consideration on July 31st, 2014. Phase I: ($369,800 - Estimated Construction Cost) The first phase of the project will install 4200 LF of sidewalk on the west side of Gardere Lane from Nicholson Drive to Old Hermitage Pkwy. Phase II: ($351,100.00 - Estimated Construction Cost) The second phase will install 1,800 LF of sidewalk on the west side of Gardere Lane from Old Hermitage to Burbank Drive. Phase III: ($359,200 - Estimated Construction Cost) The third phase will install a 4450 LF of a 10,500 LF multi-use path from the Mississippi River Levee, approximately 1000 north of Lauberge Casino Hotel to Hartley Vey BREC Park at 1702 Gardere Lane. The proposed multi-use path will tie into phase IV of the Baton Rouge Levee Top Bike Trail and ultimately provide bike & pedestrian access from the BRECs Hartley Vey Park on Gardere Lane to downtown Baton Rouge. Approximately 6050 LF of the proposed alignment are outside of the project limits of the Metro Council approved Gardere Lane Pedestrian Improvements Project. Year Federal Funding to construction Local Funding to construction Phase 1 2015 $ 295,840 $ 73,960 Phase 2 2016 $ 280,880 $ 70,220 Phase 3 2017 $287,360 $ 71,840
