The Gathering Place Read Matthew 18:15-20 Encouragement for the day – “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20 KJV According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) the minimum manning for engine companies is four personnel. NFPA determined this number based on the ability to efficiently operate on emergencies. The two in and two out rule which is used for safety reasons on hazardous emergencies also played a role in the decision to mandate four personnel. Independent studies have also verified the number of four personnel in order to efficiently operate companies on the scene of emergencies. This staffing suggestion on an engine companies does, however, make it difficult for some volunteer departments. These departments must try and handle emergencies safely with the number of personnel that show up when the alarm is sounded. God has a minimum standard as well. We read in today’s Bible verse that at least two members are needed for God to be “in the midst of them”. This minimum standard encourages us to seek out other Christian first responders and regularly meet with them. First responders can do this by finding a good Bible believing church and regularly attending the worship services. We can also seek out other Christian firefighters and meet with them for encouragement. Whether at the station or some other convenient location, it is important to meet with other Christian firefighters. First responders face all types of emergencies that could affect us physically, mentally, and spiritually. There is nothing better than having a cup of coffee with a fellow believer in Christ and talking through those runs, reading the Bible together, and praying for one another. When we do this we have a promise from God that He will be in our midst. Lord help me to find other Christians in my department to pray with today. Encourage another first responder today!!
