The German Embassy is funding mobile clinics to help estate workers in the Uva Province with their identification documents. The project is implemented through the Centre for Human Rights and Research (CHR) a partner organization of the Campaign for Free and Fair Elections (CaFFE). CHR will conduct 16 clinics to help plantation workers of Indian origin obtain identification documents such as birth certificates and National ID cards. CHR hopes this will encourage electoral participation, particularly in view of the upcoming Uva Provincial Council elections. Chargé daffaires Michael Dohmen met representatives of CHR today to handover funding for the project.
