The Glorious Church Of Christ Throughout the years a lot of people have misunderstood much about the church of Christ. Whether from ignorance, false information, or the effects of mistreatment by a member of the church, some have painted this skewed picture of the church that God never intended one to have. If God’s Word is truth (John 17:17), and the church of Christ is a truth from God, then we would expect much to be said about the church within God’s Word. And that is exactly what we see when we read the Scriptures. So let’s examine fifteen truths that everyone should know about the church of Christ. 1.) The church was thought about in God’s mind before He created Adam and Eve (Ephesians 1:7-10; 3:9-11) 2.) Jesus built the church (Matthew 16:18) 3.) Jesus paid for the church with His blood (Acts 20:28) 4.) There is only one church (Ephesians 1:22-23; 4:4) 5.) Jesus is the head of the church (Ephesians 1:22-23; Colossians 1:18) 6.) The church is not a denomination, nor is it man-made (I Corinthians 1:10-13; Hebrews 9:11) 7.) You cannot be a Christian without being a member of the church that belongs to Christ (Acts 2:47; I Corinthians 12:12-13; Galatians 3:26-27) 8.) We cannot join the church, because the Lord adds us (Acts 2:41, 47) 9.) The Lord is only going to save His church (Ephesians 5:23; I Corinthians 15:23-24) 10.) The church was no mistake, as some claim, but was prophesied about in the Old Testament (Daniel 2:34-35, 44-45; Isaiah 2:1-4) 11.) The church has no creed, but is the pillar in the ground of truth (I Timothy 3:15), getting her instructions from God’s Word (John 17:17) 12.) The church is not a building, but rather, people (Acts 11:22; 17:24) 13.) The true glory of God is only found in His church (Ephesians 3:20-21) 14.) The church is a part of God’s current kingdom (Matthew 16:18-19) 15.) The church of Christ is eternal and immovable (Daniel 2:44; Hebrews 12:28) As you can see, the Lord has revealed many wonderful truths about His glorious church. I urge you all to read these passages and see what God is saying about His body. Further, since the church is so important to God and because of His immeasurable grace, we can know what we need to do in order to be a part of that saving body. The Scriptures tell us that the shedding of blood is necessary for the forgiveness of sin (Hebrews 9:22), and specifically, Jesus’ blood is what cleanses one from that sin (Romans 5:9). The Bible tells us that we must have faith in God, or else we cannot please Him (Hebrews 11:6). In conjunction with that faith, we are also told that Jesus is the source of salvation to those who obey Him (Hebrews 5:8-9). That obedient faith is realized through hearing God’s Word (Romans 10:17), believing that Jesus is the Christ (John 8:24), repenting of sin (Luke 13:3, 5), confessing Jesus as the Christ (Matthew 10:32-33), and then being baptized in water in order for our sins to be forgiven (Acts 2:38). At that moment of baptism one becomes a Christian and is subsequently added by the Lord to His glorious church (Acts 2:41, 47). Through baptism we contact that saving blood of Christ that was shed at His death on the cross (Romans 6:3-4). If you are not a part of the saving body of Christ, why not be added to the Lord’s church by obeying by faith those blessed commands? Luke Yates
