The God we serve is perfect. Thats a tough thing to see sometimes. People often ask, why are you doing this, God? simply because in our finite-ness we cant understand His plan. When Joel was diagnosed... We asked why so many times. We still ask why. How could He allow this? Why would he allow this? What is He doing? We still ask those questions. But it comes from a heart desiring to know Him more. Sure, there have times when our questions were not to know Him more, but rather in exasperation, fear, and overwhelming confusion. But turning those questions into opportunities to know His heart is when weve grown the most. Last night, at a friends home, Adrianne said something that was a heart stopping truth Id not seen before. She said that recently, shes been overwhelmed with gratitude that God saved Joel. We are not unlike thousands of parents who have cried out to God, pleading for His healing hand on their child, only to have Him say, no, not this time. We got a yes. Why did God answer our pleadings with yes when so many other moms and dads are told no? I dont know. But Adrianne said it best last night when she answered that question with wisdom: that Gods will is ALWAYS perfect; in His yes, and in His no. For those of us whove been blessed with His yes, this thanksgiving is potent, powerful, and filled with deep gratitude for His mercies. For those moms and dads who heard no, Im so sorry, and there are no words to help heal that hurt. But knowledge is healing. And know this: The Lord is perfect. His will is perfect. And though we dont often understand, He is moving and He does so with purpose and perfection. It is with gratitude and unworthiness that my wife and I approach the God of heaven and earth this Thanksgiving, praying on your behalf that He brings peace to your hearts and understanding to your minds. Thank you, Lord, for your yes and your no. We praise your holiness and your perfection, and we want to live our lives as an echo of your goodness. Amen.
