The Godfather Review by Connor Stevenson Wright The Godfather stars Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Cann, Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, Talia Shire and John Cazale. To describe the Godfather is a very hard thing to do. The Godfather is perhaps the most beautifully captured, acted and directed film of all time. It portrays the sophistication yet the violence of the mafia. Its an interesting film to take in because just like Apocalypse Now The Godfather is an experience. Its as if you are there watching these characters interact and these events unfolding. Most people have seen The Godfather but if you havent seen The Godfather it is about ageing Don Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) trying to get his son Michael Corleone (Al Pacino) who has come back from the army yet is reluctant to follow in his fathers footsteps. If I say anymore I would risk spoiling a perfect film. In my opinion The Godfather isnt my favourite film about the mafia. In my opinion that honour goes to Goodfellas as I prefer the faster tone and I absolutely love at film with all my heart. But I will agree that The Godfather is the best film about the mafia to ever be made and one of the best films to be made. It is genius in the execution. Each shot is beautiful and well created. I mean this film was one of Stanley Kubricks favourite films and to impress a master like that you are doing a great job. The acting is fantastic. From the iconic Don Vito Corleone played by Marlon Brando. His performance was so engrossing from the mannerisms to the use of of his gross led voice. Al Pacino is at an all time acting best in this film and Part II. Yes better then Scarface and Heat. You see his gradual change of heart as the film goes on and it so beautifully shown through his acting capability. All of the supporting cast are great and there is just to many to name all I can say is there is no bad actor or actress in the film. At a run time of nearly three hours the film never seems boring. Each conversation and scene gets you invested and hooked to the screen. You want to see what is going to happen and to see if it has a consequence. Francis Ford Coppola truly made a masterpiece with this film which doesnt feel like its aged a day. If you are wondering what Godfather I think is better out of I & II you will have to find out next week. Of course it gets a 10/10. Its one of my highest recommendations and it is in my top 30. Next week is The Godfather Part II.
