The Golf Club write-up for 20th – 24th October Steve Ellison Bryan Carroll conquers Kabinburi! Monday 20th - Rayong Green Valley – Stableford – White tees. 1st – Peter LeNoury (10) 39 points 1st – Ken Grimes (20) 39 points 2nd – Robbie Taylor (28) 37 points Rayong Green Valley is a golf course that continues to impress both locals and visitors alike. There were so many golfers who came back for the presentation that commented on what a great day they had and how perfect the course is looking, and playing. It was a competition that the 24 golfers got through without rain, which seems to have appeared a bit late this year. The rain that we should have gotten in September is now pelting down in October, but surely this can’t last much longer? This is also the season of the swallows returning to Capistrano, or at least the snowbirds from Europe, Japan and the States are making their way back to Soi LK Metro! This last week we have seen our old mates Ken Aihara, Ray Powell, Peter LeNoury, Billy Eyles, Barry Collier, John Hutt and more (I have forgotten with apologies) come back to join in the fray that is the Monday comp! Speaking of Mr. LeNoury, his recent travels around Thailand have not hurt his golf game, as he most efficiently rode back with a fine 39 to tie with Ken Grimes for 1st place. Kenny’s partner in Grime, one Robbie Taylor, was a couple back and his respectable 37 gave him sole second place. Wednesday 22nd – Kabinburi S.C. – Medal – White tees. 1st – Chaten Patel (13) 68 net 2nd – Bryan Carroll (18) 76 net 3rd – Dale Shier (12) 79 net A slight change of plans to the schedule as there were so many blokes with schedule conflicts we all opted for an easier road trip of just over 2 hours up the 331-304 to Kabinburi and save the Khao Yai trip for another day. It may have been the best decision as we had 3 days of beautiful weather to welcome us to Prachinburi. The massive collection of towering cumulus clouds provided a dramatic backdrop for the contest to come. The Kantary Hotel was our domicile for the trip that also featured 5 ladies and 2 babies to join in the fun. The side trip to the Rong Kluea Market was a big hit for the girls who all came away with lighter pockets and loads of bargain goodies thanks to their respective Papas. “Honey, look at all the money I saved you!” was the cry for the day. Amazing how a little retail therapy does wonders for a relationship. You gotta do it once in a while! We booked a 2 night stay for this trip and it turned out to be a great way to do it, as we had the time to enjoy the Jacuzzi, pool, sauna and gym for a change. The Wednesday night wine & cheese party was a nice prequel to our dinner across the road at the cowboy bar, Palm Sweet Home. And many thanks to John Hutt who brought a huge block of fine Cheddar back from Blighty. We had a lot of first timers on this trip and all were very happy with the condition and layout of the course. This is billed as the “Longest Golf Course in Thailand” and at 8,075 from the tips, it must surely be true. The course was designed by famed Japanese course architect Yoshikazu Kato, who also penned Treasure Hill and the world famous Blue Canyon down in Phuket. With a first place and 2 second place finishes, the tour winner was Galwayman Bryan Carroll. Bryan turned 70 a couple of months back and to score this well 3 days on the trot is great going indeed. Won’t be long now before the old boy is shooting his age! Congratulations mate, that’s a great result that would give Brad (King of Kabinburi) Sproxton a run for his money! Thursday 23rd – Kabinburi S.C. – Stableford – White tees. 1st – Bryan Carroll (18) 37 points 2nd – Ray Powell (15) 34 points 3rd – Phil Smedley (11) 33 points Friday 24th – Kabinburi S.C. – Stableford – White tees 1st – Ken Aihara (5) 33 points 2nd – Bryan Carroll (18) 31 points 3rd – Ray Powell (15) 31 points Thanks again to all who joined us this week for some great golf in Pattaya!
