The Good, The Great And The Ugly Posted on July 9, 2013 by billmcmurdo Sanity has prevailed in the Ibrox boardroom tussle as Malcolm Murray and Phil Cartmell have left to be replaced by James Easdale. Regular readers will know this was predicted in this blog a few weeks ago. The departure of Murray and Cartmell will help alleviate a great deal of the hostility and tension at Ibrox. It is well-documented that key investors were unhappy with Murray’s ongoing involvement in particular. The real good news is the appointment of Easdale, whose business savvy and nose for a profit will mean that the club is run on sound, financially prudent lines. Easdale will not be one to put up with the shenanigans of recent months and will provide a strong input into matters as a non-executive director. I would expect he will also be in favour of Rangers putting up a more robust response to detractors of the club, something woefully lacking since the departure of Charles Green. Bit by bit it looks like the so-called “real Rangers men” element are losing the boardroom battle to the money men. This is not necessarily as bad as it sounds. Rangers fans want a club that is sound financially, not glory at the price of financial ruin. The simple fact is that Rangers Football Club paid the price for David Murray’s business empire going into a black hole of spiralling debt. Custodians of Rangers now have a more solemn than ever before duty to keep the club well away from the possibility of financial devastation. I would rather see Rangers run by savvy business people than by people who let their hearts rule their heads – and the club chequebook. ————- It was good to see Andy Murray give credit to Sir Alex Ferguson for helping inspire him in his career. Murray said that Fergie had emphasised the need for consistency and concentration and said that advice from the former Man Utd boss was “like gold dust.” Murray has certainly benefited from having Ivan Lendl as his coach and his obvious willingness to listen to mentors is clearly a big part of his success. I believe he can go on and win more Grand Slams now that he has broken the hoodoos over British male tennis stars. I also liked his granny reminding people that there are now two Wimbledon champions in the family. The sky’s the limit for Murray now, provided he can keep his feet firmly planted and not let success go to his head. ——————- Arguably the worse thing about Alex Salmond’s photobombing with the Saltire at Wimbledon was the fact that Andy Murray will not be allowed to vote in next year’s referendum due to his not being domiciled in Scotland. It is a bit like the non-resident Scots who campaigned for the Yes campaign – it is hypocrisy at its most staggering worst. As a Unionist I have stopped complaining about Salmond’s buffoonery and chicanery. As far as I am concerned, the greatest incentive for Scottish people to vote NO to separation next year is Alex Salmond himself. In terms of the NO campaign, Salmond is the gift that keeps on giving… ....shiz
