The Good, The Wet and the ugly Theres nothing like a bit of darkness to separate the good from the really good. Seagate have shown why theyre the world number ones, snatching the lead from Peak Adventure in the 11th leg. Though Peak Adventure have the likes of Rob Preston on the maps, and have three of Australias strongest trail runners in their team - it wasnt enough to keep Seagate at bay who boast (arguably) the worlds best two navigators. A look at their route choice shows just how capable they are - there are only direct lines in Seagates world. Poor Mountain Designs have had a setback which will be hard to make up, forgetting maps for the rogaine, they had to double back loosing precious time and a place. It seems unlikely theyll regain first place again… this race. MDs havent been the only ones with woes. Canberra-based Off Our Nuts, who were always an outside chance at an upset, have lost one, then two team members to vomiting, and may pull the plug all together. True to form, Danielle Winslow has broken yet more men, but is powering on regardless so far. In the mens division, the wheels fell off for team Brocann, who had a shocker navigating at night, and have now dropped from 1st to 3rd, with SA Ambulance taking a narrow lead. In the womens division, Babes in the Woods (aka She-gate), continue their domination of the one-team category, and are now freezing their booty off portaging their mirages down to the Nambucca River - putting in an impressive effort so far to stay in the top 2/3rds of the full course. Teams are now scattered over 100kms of paddling, rogaining and riding. Bedraggled racers have been pulling out of the water at Macksville all night, freezing and hurting. Some, like Instant Humans, are taking the scenic route, while the rest of the course potters on. The 72kms of overgrown, hike-a-bike will be a real test for those out there. Itll be veritably ugly. But the end is in sight, most teams have passed the half way point in both time and distance. The race now is for daylight. Those that get caught in the second night are going to have a tough time of it. Go Geoquesters, GO!
