The Gospel Truth, October 1st, 2014 – One of my dearest and closest friends is a man named James Rainey. James is one of the most talented pianist, recording producers, and singers one would ever find. James has played piano for some of the biggest names in Southern Gospel music including the Hoppers, The Goodmans, The Singing Americans, and others. And for some, James is their friend for that very reason. He’s very well known in the music industry. And, perhaps at first, that may have been what initially drew me to this man of God. But over the years he ceased to be that person that I “name drop” and just turned into “James”. You look on James’ cell phone and you’ll find in his contacts names such as “Bill Gaither”, “Clayton Inmann”, “Karen Peck”, and others. But you look in mine and the most famous name you’ll find is “James Rainey”. But that’s ok. James is my friend! When I first got saved I was struck with kind of the same thought. I went around name dropping the name of Jesus. And today, when the enemy attacks, I still call on that name. But like my relationship with James, it’s become more than just a name, it’s become my very best friend. John 15:15 says “I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.” It’s because of this that one day Jesus will name drop knowing me. I will stand before the throne of God and He will smile with His arm around my shoulder and say “this one’s with me!” You too can have Jesus name drop your name if you confess your sins to Him, ask for forgiveness, and surrender your life to His will. If you do, what an amazing day in eternity that will be.
