The Government and its various structures cannot afford such - TopicsExpress

The Government and its various structures cannot afford such extensive holidays, at least not this year, Putin told government ministers in a speech broadcast on state television. You know what I am talking about (CNN). You know what I am talking about [Putin; (CNN)]. Do we? Do they? It is still a difficult time with the world economy, slowly coming out of recession and austerity measures should be applied universally; conscientiousness to the state above all else and, as with most corporate models under these same circumstances to be used as an analogy; one must be prepared to burn the midnight oil or work late. Yes, yes and more yes but I dont think that was the intonation of his message. More importantly and more difficultly addressed is the long season of holiday drinking which kicks off about December 25th and goes full blast until practically the end of February. This request, then concealed behind nicities and formalities instituting a ban or temporary elimination of holiday vacations, would signal what it is Putin is truly intending to promote; which are tolerance and diligence. Franklin Delanor Roosevelt spent much his hours at his desk either in the Oval office or at his private residence. He was known to work tirelessly through the night, surrounding himself with every detail to a particular problem; with stacks of paper spread all over his crowded work space hiding his gaunt form; and all with no extra pay or promised compensation. Some challenge FDRs concertedness, saying that his dedication to the democratically elected post he held consecutively for three terms; and for that his undying nationalism as well; were instead more products of some compulsory manic-depressive-disorder. As contemporary culture seeks to justify their over-consumption of psycho-pharmaceuticals and designate those outstanding citizens (past or present) hewn from such rugged individualsim, to that of some reductionist system of classification, affixing the label of freak or genetically imperfect; such as has been done with biographies concerning Abraham Lincoln (apparently he was a mutant according to some;) such denegration serves as catharsis. Perhaps it is to compensate for their own lack of achievement (kind of like Neil Degrasse saying there is no more Pluto;) as many of these labels, such historical forensics tries to apply, are ultimately more about catharsis for those who no longer know how to assert such rugged individualism themselves within our modern-mainstream-society of such perceived autocracies and instead compels this growing demographic to label those who colour outside of the lines as different. Regardless, Roosevelt set this acumen of selflessness in regards to the state and one in which Harry Truman adopted for himself post FDRs absence and untimely death. However there are traditions that do a diservice to keep in effect when they are no longer relevant; specifically I refer to the August recess of the US Senate. The basis to the reason for the month long time-out to normal government functioning was of a necessity of sorts, as the the original Senate chambers grew too hot under the late summers sun. In 1859 when sessions were held at its present address under the eventual cool canopied top of the distinctive dome; it was still to danged hot, so the month off remained. Presently, with central air, climate controlled rooms, cotton underwear and Ts (Id imagine wool long-johns would make matters worse,) and beverages infused with electrolytes; why does the United States Senate get an entire month of paid leave during times of severe austerity? Such hypothetical austerity measures should be applied even as our nations economy seemingly improves; for America has and continues to experience the negative impact of such global downturns with the onset and continued legacy, of The Great Recession beginning in 2007. In Spain they still take a siesta, which originally were 20-30 minute breaks during the hottest times of the day; intended to refresh ones self so they may conclude the day productively. What has happened as a culture to this national concession is to have lunch go anywhere from two-to-three hours each day, effectively stopping business its tracks. Could one imagine if their stock exchange did this at the height of trading each day? Russia, Spain and the United States need to listen to Putin or at least follow his lead here. He is most wise on this matter.
