The Government has increased salaries for some top public officers which they finance minister has described as one way of harmonizing civil servants salaries. Under the new arrangement, Cabinet Ministers and the Leader of Opposition Lazarus Chakwera will now be receiving 1.6 million kwacha per month up from K600, 000. Deputy Ministers will now take home 800,000 kwacha, up from 428,000 kwacha while parliamentarians will be pocketing 600,000 per month up from 126,000 kwacha. Only the President and his Vice have turned down theire revised salary packages, in solidarity with Malawians as the country goes through turbulent economic times. This comes at a time the country is experiencing a wave of strikes by government employees including workers from the Anti Corruption Bureau who started their industrial action today.
