The Greatest Game episode: Aurora Bright missiondevelopment/2013/06/aurora-bright/ Continued from A Grim Future… Burrowing under the sheets, Aurora closed her eyes. She smiled and thought, “Just a few more minutes.” Sunlight was battering the curtains and winning. Stretching her back and touching her toes, she felt awfully comfortable in bed, alone. “Love these mornings,” she mumbled and looked at the alarm clock. It said 10:47 and she groaned. “Crap. Tennis at Noon?” Flipping the covers off, she slid her long legs over the side of the bed. She padded into the bathroom and splashed water on her face, then leaned close to the mirror. Oh good. Still young. The world of Aurora Bright needed no improvement. At twenty-nine, she had over five hundred thousand dollars stashed away. Owning her home south of Ventura Boulevard in Studio City—one of the few true Craftsman bungalows in the Valley—she was set for life. “Not bad for Tujunga Trailer Trash,” she was fond of thinking. She stepped into the shower, applied shampoo, conditioner and body lotion, rinsed off, toweled down and combed her hair. Since it always dried perfectly, she could spend time deciding which tennis outfit to wear. Settling on the plain, white, short-short one-piece, she returned to the bathroom and applied minimal makeup. She didn’t need it. Aurora looked great in anything, or nothing. Five feet nine, thick blond hair, thirty-five, twenty-two, thirty-four, she attracted men and women alike. Her laugh was melodic and her intelligence bubbled under the surface. She was one of the most expensive call girls in the Los Angeles area. Hard work maintained her physique. Daily exercise, organic diet, Pilates and yoga. Voice lessons, piano lessons and constant reading rounded out her routine. While working full time as a waitress and carrying fifteen units at California State University Northridge, she’d been discovered. Not by the movie business; probably better. For the last seven years, she had worked exclusively with an older gentleman named Victor Holmgren. He was in the business of connecting pretty women with wealthy men. A Swedish national with a network in embassies and consulates, Victor moved in the richest echelons of American society, taking forty percent off the top. Aurora was happy with the arrangement because he specialized in the girlfriend experience—GFE. It gave her an opportunity to use all of her skills and she earned a lot more than she would in temporary one-night ententes. Most of her engagements were a week, sometimes two, with a five-day minimum. Since the clients had no real spending limit, the height of the sky was up to her imagination. Continued…
