The Greeks Are Trying to Get It Together What has become clear recently is that the Greek citizens have rejected, not just the dumb austerity measures the Germans push, but also the vicious, patronizing and corrupted political system that ruled them for four decades, all the way from the conservative ND and the socialist PASOK. They want good government. They sensibly seek to renegotiate their public debt. It isnt clear yet how the bankers in Berlin, Brussels and Frankfurt will ultimately respond. The new Greeks also dont want to leave the Eurozone or abandon the Euro. The just want a break on their debt. The truth is European bankers could forgive all of it and the loss would be peanuts and inconsequential. But the austerity of -- make them suffer sentiment remains strong in Europe. Well see.
