The Green Army is ready for Meru, but is Meru ready for the Mighty Kogalo? This Sunday, the league leaders, Gor Mahia FC who dub up as the defending champions of the Tusker Premier League will be going to battle it out with former champs Tusker FC in Kinoru stadium in Meru. The stadium, which initially could hold a capacity of 500 fans, was recently renovated to accommodate 5000 fans. The mighty army is known to travel far and wide in support of their beloved team. Considering their current form and position in the table, the number of fans likely to travel to Meru could be higher than expected. This calls for some security measures to be taken both by the home and away teams to avoid any crises keeping in mind the only time Meru has huge crowds is during political rallies. This is an experience that has never been felt before and should be approached with a lot of care. Right from all corners of the country, the fans are prepared to brace the misty weather as they head to Meru. The fans are known to get to the venue way before the kick off and this means the streets in Meru will experience a caravan like never before. The small town is likely to come to a standstill as the caravan snakes its way around the town as they chant praise songs for their club. The eating joints will have to miss the game and up their game while at it. Business will not be as usual both on the roads and in homes. Many will want to put on hold their daily routine just to witness the ‘state function’ by ‘Sirkal’. This means the residents will strive to be part of the army, they would want to see how it goes down within the stadium, so they would also be in the stadium. There will be three kinds of people in the stadium; the Tusker FC fans (Accused), the Green Army commanders (Plaintiff) and the last group will be the ‘witnesses’. Considering their current form, the eleven judges from the Green High Court are likely to rule the case after 90 minutes by shaking the ‘accused’ net twice. Being the high court, there will be no room for any appeal and the accused is likely to remain at ‘Cell two’. Is the stadium ready for the verdict? Is the town ready for the ululation and jubilation that will follow? It will be the first time the stadium in its current state will be hosting such a match. For the love of the game, we hope that someone has already taken all the possible security measures.
