The Guardian: The most non credible paper with regards to Detained illegal boat arrivals . For a start it is against privacy policies to divulge any medical information from any medical personnel. The figures are grossly incorrect on all counts. There are no references. I find it amazing how these people managed to get out of several countries of unrest, bombs, tanks, snipers, large militant groups, armies etc to then not be able to take care of their own hygiene (skin conditions and gastric complaints). I also get amused when Guardian use such terms as A Parliamentary Committee , not which committee, what department or who the committee is made up of. Personally I have had a few out of date over the counter medications. It happens. Most of the injuries are self administered. Including sewing of lips, cutting, gastric complaints. (They do not clean their own facilities and the locals refuse to do so because of the threats of violence). The way that some of these people who no one has heard of (Dr Kidd) have never been to Manus, and are disrespecting the medical professionals of the Island and who take care of the local population that thrives, make out that of over 1000 men in detention, less than 20 have got any illness of severe nature, and only 2 have died , 1 of those from a rare infection. Gastro hit many working sites and offices harder and more people infected in Australia. They have the choice to return to country of origin or go to a safer place. Never is there records or leaked information about those who die in the UNHCR camps, the illnesses , injuries etc. The man with the burns who had his steroid cream removed was medivacced to Australia due to him picking at the scab formations from healing and getting infection. Self inflicted wounds. There is nothing to say these people are not suffering when they get injured, ill or self harm , BUT, they would get little to no treatment at all in most other places at the quality they get on Manus. They certainly wouldnt get any at all if they remained in the places they say they leave and why. If the UNHCR are so concerned about the welfare of those on Manus then perhaps they should take over the care, medical , fiscal, and treatment instead of the Australian taxpayer having to foot the bill for these people who are not welcome and where not invited. Build another facility (Australia has already spent several million on a Hospital). They get better treatment than millions of others, including Australians. theguardian/australia-news/2014/dec/30/manus-island-detainees-being-put-in-medical-isolation-at-rate-of-one-a-day?CMP=soc_567
