The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society....Mary Anne Shaffer and Annie Barrows. Have just finished this most beautifully written book. It is written as letters to and from all its characters to one another, but with enough substance in each letter to convey a coherent account of the lives of an amazing group of people during and after the German invasion of their island in WWII. Annie Barrows writes of Mary Ann Shaffer that it was Shaffers ....willingness to be delighted by people - their phrases, their frailties, and their fleeting moments of grandeur which made this novel the classic that it is. Now I am attempting John Grays 2002 novel, Straw Dogs for the fourth time!
