The Guild of Creative Art will award its annual $500 scholarship to a graduating high school senior from Monmouth County who plans to major in the visual arts at an accredited college or art school in the Fall of 2014. Their major may be Painting, Sculpture, or Photography. The James T. Gary Foundation Scholarship In addition to the Guild scholarship, the James T. Gary Foundation will provide a $500 scholarship, through the Guild of Creative Art, with the intention of preserving the memory of internationally renowned sculptor, Jim Gary of Colts Neck, NJ. Jim Gary, an award winning artist, was well known for his metal sculptures built from recycled automobile parts. He has been featured in Ebony Magazine, Weekly Reader and National Geographic World, as well as in television shows and countless museums throughout the world. Gary is the only sculptor ever invited to present a solo exhibition, which opened on April 12, 1990, at the Smithsonian Institutions National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. Much of Jim’s artwork is currently being exhibited in Florida at the Tallahassee Museum and is on long term loan. Locally, one of his dinosaur sculptures is on display at the Monmouth Museum on the Brookdale Campus in Lincroft, NJ. As the recipient of many commissions for art in public spaces, he designed the September 11th Memorial for the town of Colts Neck, NJ, which on display at their municipal building.
