The HHS girls varsity cross country team earned their third straight trip to the State Meet with a 2nd place finish at the UIL Class 6A Region I Championship in Lubbock on Oct. 31. Two Hawk bots, junior Drew Cummings and senior Ethan Davis, were individual qualifiers to the State Meet. The Hawk girls were led by freshman Laura Fairchild, who was 7th in 17:30.20. Junior Anna Elkin was 10th in 17:34.70 and senior Megan Montgomery was 11th in 17:43.20. Freshman Abby Riordan was 17th in 18:11.80 and sophomore Amanda Case was 29th in 18:33.90 to round the Top Five for HHS. Sophomore Hannah Pettigrew finished 43rd in 19:00.10 and junior Sarah Fairchild was 86th in 19:50.60. Marcus won the team race with 42 points. HHS was second with 72, Flower Mound third with 112 and Southlake was fourth with 127 points. All four teams advance to the State Championship in Round Rock on Nov. 8.
