The Hag Chronicles Update (from Saturday): Mariah and I continued - TopicsExpress

The Hag Chronicles Update (from Saturday): Mariah and I continued our battle of wills. On Saturday, we tried a new field next to a cemetery, downhill from the local television station. Saturday just wasnt a good day for me, and I messed up so many things it was ridiculous. It was colder than I thought, and thinking it was warmer than it was, I chose not to take hand warmers...NOT a good choice! But that was just the first of many faux pas. We hunted Jack first. There werent any good trees/perches, but instead chest high weeds, uneven ground, broken concrete slabs, brush piles and lots of good places for critters to hide. Heck, we even busted a deer out of the weeds! Id decided to try my nifty pole perch for Jack, which is a telescoping paint rod with a horizontal perch. The idea is that you carry that into the field, the bird rides up there and you catch game. Id never used the pole perch before--never needed it, but I had it. I was hopeless with it...couldnt keep it from swaying and falling while trying to navigate around all the obstacles in the field. Jack, of course, loved the pole perch. I just couldnt do it right to save my life, even with the base in my pocket. EPIC FAIL! The good news is we did see one rabbit--unfortunately Jack didnt see it and it disappeared into a huge brush pile that I couldnt budge to save my life. The rest of the hunt for Jack was a replay of all the others--trying and failing. Since there was a large mowed area, I decided to do the creance session there. Mariah and I remain in our respective positions on the whole creance debate. She exited the giant hood, already in a bit of a huff. Reluctantly, she flew to Raylene Lewis fist for the first tidbit, but as usual, took off the other way rather than fly back to me. She landed on the ground, which didnt help her mood at all, but after a bit of a pout, she flew to me. Again, she was reluctant to fly to Ray, but did it, then took off over Rays head, bumping her on the nose, in the attempt to fly off and just start hunting--no blood or other injury. From then on, she refused to go to Ray but flew to me several times, all from the ground. I made her do a couple of vertical jumps--the good news is my left shoulder is reaching higher, so its a reasonably good exercise. In short, shes kinda cooperating a little BITTY bit, but only under protest and only after flying off first. Were really not getting anywhere good. Not sure, but I think Ill end up caving...well see. We didnt get a test of wills today. There comes a point where the battle is definitely counter productive. Were probably already there. But I REALLY want her to be muscled up, at least a little, before she attempts a real hunt.
