The Haiti Earthquake of January 12th, 2010 This year marks the 5th anniversary of all people who died in the earthquake occurred in Haiti in January 12th, 2010, including six people from Lynn University. The names of four students and two professors were Stephanie Crispinelli, 19, of Katonah, N.Y.; Britney Gengel, 19, of Rutland, Mass.; Christine Gianacaci, 22, of Hopewell, N.J.; Courtney Hayes, 23, of Duglas, Ga.; assistant professor Richard Bruno, 59; and Patrick Hartwick, 53, dean of the Ross of Education. I believe January 12th, 2010 should never be forgotten by people who are living in this world. Haiti had been devastated by the earthquake. The death toll in this tragic situation was unbelievable. I was speechless when I saw the news on television. I was unable to understand the situation occurred in my country. There are many people have been killed by the earthquake. The ones who were so lucky enough have been survived. Some of the survivors have been under the rubble for several days. Indeed, God protected them despite the unbelievable situation occurred in my homeland. During the situation, no one could distinguish rich and poor, black and white, big and small, educated and uneducated, healthy and unhealthy, attractive and unattractive people because they were altogether in the Haiti earthquake. Despite this tragic problem, we still have many Haitians who refuse to become conscious of their destructive mentality. Those Haitians have no intention to embrace unity and peace. They prefer to continue allowing their hearts to be filled with cruelty, jealousy, hypocrisy, ignorance, mediocrity and unkindness. Today, I would like to encourage all Haitians to change their hearts. They need to realize mediocrity and division will never lead them to success. There is only one way they can become very powerful in the world and become respected by other foreigners is to embrace harmony. When they become harmonized, they will be able to find a better way to live as wonderful brothers and sisters in the land of their ancestors. The real possibility for the Haitian people to survive is to prioritize the interests of Haiti before they can see their own personal interests. We can have a better Haiti if all Haitians have the willingness to work together and find constructive solutions to the problem Haiti is facing today. As I mentioned earlier, Lynn University students and professors were among the victims of the earthquake stuck Haiti. They had traveled to Haiti in order to provide humanistic help to the Haitians. Unfortunately, the 7.0 magnitude earthquake killed them. I know those individuals were very precious to Lynn University and their families, friends and colleagues and students. I believe those individuals will never be forgotten and they will always be remembered because humanistic efforts they made to help the Haitians. In deed, the families, friends, colleagues, neighbors are still mourning the deaths of Stephanie Crispinelli, Britney Gengel, Christine Gianacaci, Courtney Hayes, assistant professor Richard Bruno and Patrick Hartwick. Lynn University, I am very sorry for your big losses. I believe God will never stop blessing this institution, which is filled with people who have always been ready to provide humanistic assistance to those who are suffering in other countries. I am very proud of the work they continue doing to in order to improve the lives of other people around the world. To honor the lives of those individuals who died in the Haiti earthquake. Lynn University created a memorial plaza dedicated to the six who died in the earthquake. Indeed, Lynn University responded to the tragedy in a constructive way. Dr. Kevin Ross, I would like to congratulate you for using your leadership knowledge to help those who are working under your supervision to execute your superb plans. Please continue integrating more effective CSR activities in your school. By the way, I would like all of you to realize the Haiti earthquake of January 12th, 2010 should help people all over the world understand life is nothing. None of us really knows when, where and how we are going to die. I believe this year should be the year where all Haitians need to become unified and learn how to live as brothers and sisters in our native country, Haiti. -Peterson Francois
