The Hallow Evening” (Part 2 of 2) [To those who don’t - TopicsExpress

The Hallow Evening” (Part 2 of 2) [To those who don’t read these in order, read the previous post to make this one make sense.] The initiate is not yet reborn, after this symbolic journey (Perþ) however. He has to remain in the burial mound, this Middle-Earth, until Yule when he will be officially reborn and can return to the world of the living. On Yule Eve, the grave mound is opened up by the most beautiful lady of the house, and all the elves (=the spirits of the dead) return, along with the chosen ones who were reborn. They bring the items from the grave that they used to own in their previous lives as gifts from the Elves (Yule [Christmas] gifts?). They have become their forebears, they have become divine, they carry their Honour, their Hamingja. A divine child is thus born on the Yule Day after all…. I’ll make a more detailed post on this practice in the future, as well as explain a commonly mis-read Hâvamâl stanza on the matter. Modern scholars can’t seem to see the forest for the trees (but we’re all guilty of this, in one way or another).
