The Hammond Circus Train Wreck occurred on June 22, 1918 when a locomotive engineer fell asleep and ran his train into the rear of another near Hammond, Indiana (USA). It is considered one of the worst train wrecks in US history. Eighty-six people were reported to have died, and 127 were injured. Those that could not be identified were placed in graves noted as Unknown Male #61 and Unknown Female #43 in an area called Showmans Rest. See the Find A Grave memorial page here: ancstry.me/1srYYul
